Cycling UK and CCU Bring the Joy of Cycling to Everyone

The wind in your hair, the healthy pump in your legs, and the thrill of being in control of your speedy, free-to-run, machine – the joy of cycling is endless.

But not everyone who wants to cycle can take part.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Cycling UK on the project ‘Access Bikes’. The goal is to help people in Scotland who want to buy a bike but can’t pay the cost upfront.

Together, we’re offering interest free loans to people on lower incomes, helping them to spread the cost of buying a bike.

This scheme, which is funded by the Scottish Government, offers a safe and affordable way for people to buy an adult bike and start cycling.

Participants can also access tailored support from Cycling UK including help choosing the right bike, cycle training or confidence building sessions and support to access local cycle groups.

How does it work?

We provide individual 0% loans to people who are unable to afford the costs of a cycle upfront or who are not eligible for other cycle purchase schemes such as Cycle to Work.

No upfront payment is required and the loan will be repaid in manageable instalments with no interest.

Loans will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and subject to the affordability criteria and our application process.

There are a limited number of loans available so check if you’re eligible today!

Who is elligible?

  • Over 18 years old.
  • People who live or work in the East of Scotland (see map below for regions).
  • People who work for one of our partner employers
  • Members of Community Trade Union.
